Dental Implants

Dental implants are one of the best treatment options for replacing teeth that have been lost due to decay, gum disease or an accident.

A dental implant is a root-form implant; meaning it is a replacement for your tooth’s natural roots. It is very effective because it mirrors the size and shape of the natural tooth. A dental implant is surgically placed in your jaw. Thus, it provides a strong foundation for the crown.

Compared to other methods of tooth replacement, dental implants are beneficial for several reasons:

  • They look, feel and function very much like natural teeth.
  • During implant placement, adjacent teeth do not have to be reduced or compromised in any way. In fact, adjacent teeth may actually function better and last longer because of the implant.
  • You do not have to worry about implants moving around or coming out. Each implant is placed securely.
  • Implants can improve speech and enable you to chew more effectively.
  • Implants are easier to keep clean. Simply brush and floss as normal.
  • Implants prevent the deterioration of the jawbone, known as resorption. This condition commonly affects denture wearers and happens over a period of years. Resorption occurs because dentures do not effectively stimulate the jawbone during eating and speaking. Implants prevent resorption by stimulating the jawbone, which helps to keep it strong.
